Beautiful!! Will ck out your website, also. We have a ruby throated that was so possessive of our 2 feeders we call him Rowdy. However, a youngster (greenish-brown) has seemed to hold his own & taken over for the most part. We'll plant some lantana & get more feeders for next season. Thanx for such a wonderful video.

I love the humingbird as it was my grandmothers favorite too.... she used to sit by her window in her rocking chair and just wait anxiously for them to come and feed.... I myself, have what I call a bird sanctuary at our camp site but not near as beautiful as yours.... my hubby makes sure all the little creatures are well fed ... I am not sure how to post my videos.... I am a newbie so can use some help or tips as to how to do it. Thank you for sharing! Jeanette

put a little bit of olive oil around the spouts of the feeders. bees don't like the scent of the olive oil, but it doesn't bother the hummingbirds. this footage is amazing! i want that to be my back yard. :)

Hi, You can't keep honey bees away - they love sugar water. Wasp, yellow jackets, hornets and carpenter bees I just shoot with a water bottle everytime they land on the feeder while I am photographing. When I am not photographing I hope the feeders I am using will not allow most bees to reach the sugar water and that really helps. Bees are attracted to yellow more than some other colors and a feeder without yellow ports helps. Last,try relocating the feeders and the Hummingbirds will find them.

This is really amazing, I have never gotton a humming bird to do this by it feeding in your hand! I named my humming birds that come around every june and august, Rose which is all red, Red Neck which has a red neck and Jayd that is all green, and Chester which had orange on his brest,

Wonderful video--thanks. I just put up two feeders in June and had a hummingbird that very day. A mother who was feeding young. I now have at least 5, counting the mother-4 of her fledglings and a male who I believe is responsible for all the youngins! What a wonderful and inexpensive hobby-- as long as folks know to KEEP THE FEEDERS CLEAN! Anyway-thanks for your wonderful videos. Can you tell me how you got that male to almost eat out of you hand? Mine are still quite skiddish of me.

All Hummingbirds in my videos are Ruby-throated adult males & females or Ruby-throated immature males & females. The one in that particular time slot is an immature male. He was born a few months earlier and is starting to show red on his throat, and still has the white tips on his tail feathers in the video. This summer (2008) when he returned to the USA he was an adult male with the red throat and no white tips on his tail feathers. Who knows, he may be one of the adult males here at my house.

Hummingbirds will always chase/fight because it is their God given instinct which keeps them in great shape. They could never survive the long hard flight they endure each migration if they weren't exactly like they are. The fewer you have the more they fight. They think they are chicken hawks. LOL I have many feeders up and clean with fresh food & many flowers they love all over my backyard.

i too very much enjoy hummingbird and have 4 and i am wondering how do yours not fight all the hummingbirds at my house are very agressive except for mates and at other people's houses i have been to they also fight and 2nd how did you attract so many i can obviously tell you have been feeding for years and the birds trust you

Great job with the hummingbirds. I live in Colombia so they come to feed year round. I use plain sugar water and easily attract up to four to feed at the same time. My videos posted on YouTube show hummingbirds coming into my house. They fly through to the kitchen when food is low. One whistles when perched outside my window in a star fruit tree. Hi, One day as I was hanging the feeder he landed on it to eat. After that, I would hold the feeder for him and later came flowers. It took a few weeks to get him to the point where he would actually eat from the palm of my hand. I have had others to eat from handheld feeders but not from my palm. I would never feed hummers anything except sugar water.

Absolutely not - it was mix bought from a store, made by a major birdfood/feeders company and there has never been any evidence that the red mix they sell is harmful. I don't use it because it is much cheaper to make your own clear sugar water. Just to make sure the hummer could see the food in my hand I used the mix a few times and after that he would come to clear sugar water.

Christine, I change my hummingbird food every two or three days and I only make enough to last about a week, which is stored in the fridge. If you leave food in the feeders too long and it spoils, the hummers will find a food source elsewhere. I keep my hummingbird feeders on the deck and backyard bird feeders near the back fence. I can't say it is necessary to do that, but I like it that way.

Great! - I bought a feeder a month ago, and made some sugar water up but they would not touch it, didn't know if I had a good mix. Is it recommended to keep a regular seed bird feeder in a different location than the hummingbird feeder, this maybe another reason no humbirds are around. Thanks for the recipe. Oh, I also read to change out the mixture by the 2nd week, I guess it can spoil if not used.

The most used solution is one part sugar (20%)and four parts water (80%). If it is slightly stronger that is OK, but don't let it be any weaker than 20%sugar. I have been told up to 25% sugar is actually ok and will not hurt the hummers, but I still try to keep mine right around 20% (one cup of sugar and four cups of water)
