macaws are very nice creatures very great pets and companions and they are easy to train. They are a good pet but you need to take responsabilities obiously he wasnt take illegaly from the forest. an organization for animal rights would of taken him already he is a nice pet he was obiously raised by him.

If it was taken illegally from the rainforest I would agree with you Paumonsu. However, from the very beginning of this birds life it was breed and raised in captivity as were it's parents. If if was let go in the rainforest it wouldn't have the correct coping skills to survive because it never learned to scavage for it's own food. I would like there to be less humans in the Macaw's natural home and more Macaw's but that is not how things are these days. Sadly. :(

this is a noob status comment u want to buy a macaw as your first bird and i bet you know nothing about them.. tsk tsk tsk... start off small.. buy a parrotlet... birds are big responsibilities. they arent like dogs... u have to have macaws out everyday all day. and u have to deal with there screaming.. and if u are only working part time then u dont have enough time to even watch one cuz im sure the other half of that part time is doing some form of activity

Hi,we found Jack at a pet shop in Ohio 1 1/2 years ago and fell in love. The shop owner said that he could say about 10 different things. We were shocked everyday when he said something different! We counted over 70 words at that time. I don't know how the previous owners taught him to talk but he says what he wants when he wants.lol We have another blue and gold and she only says about 15 single words. She hears the same thing as Jack, so it must just depend on the bird. Thanks so much Tammy

What an amazing bird!!! I have 2 blue and golds and my female has been talking since she was 6 months old, she has quite a large vocabulary, but not quite as extensive as your bird's yet. It shows that you spend a lot of time with him. I really enjoyed listening to him talk.

My Blue and Gold Macaw Daimon. He loves cameras and when he saw me holding it he had to come look. He starts dancing incredibly fast toward the end and it's so funny. I love my 'baby' macaw!

before anyone gets any parrot, you should research it all, the costs of the needy cage size they need for their size, want a parrot not just for its talking ability, theres better reasons to own one, african greys are great talkers but theyre shy, usually will not talk as much in front of strangers like the Yellow head or Yellow Nape Amazons which blabber in front of just about anyone, but yes parrots are amazing

My 16 m/o daughter has proven to be a bird lover, she gets more excited when she sees a bird than any other animal, including dogs and cats. I have yet to let her hold or pet a bird for fear that she would excite the bird to much. Considering it's tame nature, most likely it's parents were also tame. It seems to show no signs of being wild at one point. Even if this bird was put back into the wild, it would most likely die, being unable to provide for itself. It looks happy and healthy, I don't see what the big problem is. With rainforest getting smaller and smaller, it would probably be happier where it is now. The owner is most likely saving it then making things worse. Try not to be so hard on the video host.

I think if they are to be kept, they should be kept in zoos and breeding programmes, to ensure their survival. Here in Australia where rose breasted cockatoos (or galahs) are native, they go for about $80. Which to me is horrible, people buy them expecting to have a fun pet for 12 years, when in reality these birds can live to 80 and are incredibly intelligent. If they fly away, they come back. That is what training flight is all about. If your bird escapes the house and is already flight trained, it just comes right back (usually). If it is not flight trained it may never be seen again. Flight training makes a huge difference in recovery of accidentally loose birds. Chris

Sorry to hear this. It is very important people understand that before you let a bird fly outdoors, that it is properly trained BEFORE you let it loose outdoors. Our birds do not fly away not by accident, but because of their training. Chris

i watch this all the time too cute. Where can you buy these beautiful birdies and how much do they cost. I love the name too. You are an awesome owner. I enjoyed every minute and usually my attention span is like 5 minutes max but this video amazing. gorgeous bird. Thanks for sharing!

That varies with species. As a rule the smaller birds develop faster than the larger birds. It also varies with how you approach feeding a young bird. I get a macaw eating solid foods much faster than does Susan who likes to baby them. So for a macaw, solid foods can be fed between about 12 -16 weeks. They may start playing and eating small amounts sooner though. I have not made an effort to really study this question but will try to keep better records of future birds progress.

Do you keep all the birds you train? I love the baby pics & video diary. Just wonderful. I have done the pics with some of my parrotlets. It is so fun to watch them go from little tiny helpless things and watch them grow and learn. Do you think it is ok/safe to try to teach older birds your flight techniques? I think that would be a good safety measure. Esp when I am transfering to our outdoor flight. I would really appreciate your opinion. Thanks again for sharing your love with the world!!!

If you get another parrot, remember if you are going to let them have full wings it is important to train them to fly back to you, even if only expecting to fly them indoors. Chris

Your video is so beautiful! I used to have budgies, and I let them free-fly in the house... but one day they escaped outside and they never came back to me. :( I'm hoping someday I'd get a new companion, and I'm eyeing the larger birds.
