In his first outing after winning the 1973 Triple Crown, Secretariat travels to Chicago to run in a race set up especially for him. Chris Schenkel calls the race and is joined by Penny Chenery and Lucien Laurin. The race was run June 30, 1973.

Its a special treat to hear the late Chris Schenkel give a running commentary along with Penny Chenery. Ms. Chenery sure was antsy there for awhile; of course, she needn't have been. As soon as Turcotte asked for some run out of the 'big boy' in the stretch, he got it-in spades. I think Lucien Laurens comment that Big Reds early pace was way too slow to set a track record from says something about his incredible acceleration in the stretch. The final time was just 1/5 second off the record.

In addition Secretariat lost the Woodward, primarily because he wasn't really intended to start. The track was muddy, Riva Ridge was the one to go in the Woodward,but Riva didn't handle mud. So without the "zinger" workout Lucien usually gave Secretariat, he was just a little dull. If he would've been pointed towards the Woodward earlier, I believe you would have seen the real "BIG RED".

For someone to say that blew his chances in the Whitney is ridiculous. Though the field had some good horses, that ended up being a payed workout. Secretariat thrived on hard work, in fact if he didn't get a brisk workout before a race he tended to be dull,that is usually the opposite with racehorses. He got beat in the Whitney,because he had a fever coming up to the race.

I worked for the trainer of My Gallant, (Lou Goldfine) who also trained Shecky Greene the same year,what a shame to have TWO top three year olds in '73 and have to hook "a tremendous machine" on numerous occasions. Big Red was the best.

That's not true, Our Native was there along with My Gallant, quality stakes horses. Secretariat was just that much better. Even though it was an invitational race, most trainers were steering clear of Secretariat after the Triple Crown. Big Red was a buzzsaw, plain and simple. Take care.

Brilliant! Big Red just TOYED with the field here. He ran wide quite a bit and still came within 1/5 of the track record. I especially enjoyed Penny Chenery telling Secretariat to "Get up!" and screaming "Whoohoohoo!" Classic footage. Thanks a lot for posting this. Take care.

blizzard cant screw this game up man. they have too much love and respect for the fans and the shit they do. theres a reason why its a big deal when blizzard comes out with a new title (and im not thinking of expansions). its just doesnt happen very often and the games that come out are usually very solid. think of the past games WC3:FZ,WOW(which i believe is an epidemic now), SC2 (crossing my fingers here), SC, D2. i mean, i really cant think of a blizzard game thats at least average.

When a Zito horse runs such a big race that deviates from previous form, a la Da Tara, it's often a reflection of the quality of care and training regimen that the barn believes in. Agreed, Coal Play ran his heart out that day. But do watch him closely next out, to see if he's strategically placed. So often, the public will send post-dramatic/gutsy effort Zito horses next out heavily favored, only to disappoint because they cannot replicate the previous effort. Birdstone did validate though.

Coal Play is one of those speed types that you'd love to play against next out. He rocketed to the front, took advantage of a notoriously-speed favoring Monmouth highway, and did indeed show grit in deep stretch. However, as Mr. Zito may tell you himself, he is not considered top-tier in that barn. And hence the purpose of watching these big races is to determine the legitimacy of deceptively "impressive" performances. I hope he goes off 4-5 in his next outing..perhaps facing Past The Point.

I think we all should complain-it is a third type of surface. IT ISNT DIRT! Now we need horses that can run on dirt, turf, and this synthetic crap. It is ridiculous. And your comment about "worthy champions" is ridiculous as well-so you are saying that they should be able to run on asphalt! Like I said before, if it is a dirt race, it should be run on dirt, not synthetic. If the BC Ltd is "smart" enough to accept synthetic, then they should be smart enough to add another 5 races.

Most likely Harlem Rocker will run because his owner is the owner of Santa Anita. Casino Drive is a good possibility. I doubt Steve Asmussen will run any horses on dirt, same thing with Larry Jones. I think it is outrageous to have the BC at Santa Anita 2 years in a row-a lot of good horses will be skipping out, and the Eclipse awards will be screwed up because of it. They should run DIRT races on DIRT! I think it makes a lot of sense!

interesting how much you can learn by watching pros surf. My instructor used to tell me to stand near the middle of the board, but watching this guys I can see they stand a bit to the back. I started doing that and like magic I could turn my board tighter. my instructor also taught me to grab the rails when popping up, later learned that's a bad idea.

Ultralisks: They absolutely destroy bases in mass numbers, you can just attack, and win the game, by the scenario. Nydus Canals: They help in reinforcing your expos. HT are good agains everything with their range and damage for the storm and ultralisk are the zerg tanks!!!! Well about the infested terrans, they are a little hard to get, verry dificult in a pro game, and archon so dont dee them much but the are verry powerfull with the tough shields. I agree with pete below me. some of you seem to be mistaken. these aren't shitty players, these are some of the worlds best invited to hawaii for an elite tourny. alot of the guys are from the MLL. if you want further proof there is another vid on youtube that shows highlights of one of the games...same exact unis, same exact place, same tourny...and its got many lacrosse pros in it. check it out

Coolnatt, it's not Blizzard's fault, it's the addictive nature of MMORPGs and your dad. There's no way of making a good MMORPG that's not addictive. In fact, a good MMORPG is addictive, and Blizzard can't help World of Warcraft not being addictive (unless they made it a bad game,which would be worse). Also, if your dad were to play more casually, he would not be quite so addicted to it. As far as I'm concerned, they are the best video developer ever.
