It helps if you have lots of distortion and have really "hot" pickups. This guys is not using the original strat pickups. He has a hotter pickup added. Hot means they are more responsive and louder. Humbuckers are usually more hotter than single coils. Hot pickups are used for that crazy loud metal sound and NOT for smoother jazz sounds.

i'm starting with it too,without distortion (i don't have any) it does sound very quiet and soft. i got myself some headphones (those big ones) and cranked the 10w amp and the guitar volume,and when i do pinch harmonics now they sound really good,but i'm also stuck with the squealies,i can't get them to sound good

I remember struggling when I did this years ago. I think the guy explains it brilliantly, so if you can't get it now just try harder. Remember, only a tiny bit of the pick should come from under your thumb, so when you pick the string, both ur pick and thumb hit the string.

it could be either your amp or maybe your pickups just suck...i know mine do. just buy a better amp and it wont matter if your pickups suck or not...youll be able to hear them.but i'de recommend getting better pickups later on. once' oyu know how to all of this.

Am I retarded? I've got an Ibanez Hollowbodied guitar, and I wanted to try pinch harmonics. I couldn't for the life of me figure those out, so I thought I'd go a bit more basic with natural harmonics. When I do get my harmonics to ring, they aren't nearly as clear as these videos, and most of the time I can't even get them to ring. Could it be my guitar? Or my amp? (A little Roland Cube 15x, which I know is small, but still...)

The plate is being accelerated at various frequencies. If you played your sax through an amplifier with a flat speaker and put the salt on the speaker you could get the same effect if the volume was high enough. It would probably work with a normal speaker as well but the mode shapes and frequencies would probably be different in both cases.

Fascinating new take on the song. I hated it at the beginning, but I'm glad I stuck with it because it really blossoms into something quite powerful, and the soloist is uniformly excellent. I'm not Justin, but this could help: many players octave the note facing the guitar to the speaker at reasonable volume. This "feeds" the note, octaving it. Steve Hackett, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Edward Van Halen, many others do this way.

tapping 12 fret harmonics is the easiest since its the clearest sounding (half the string), but you can tap others like 1/3 of the string and so on especially w/ distortion. i'm tring to figure out what the notes are though. i think its called the overtone series or something like that.

its different from regular tapping because you BOUNCE your finger off of the FRET MARKER(the metal line). where as regular tapping you HIT your finger in the MIDDLE of the fret. you can do it 5,7,9, or 12 frets above the fret your holding down with you left finger try strumming a note and then lightly placing your middle finger on a note that gives a harmonic, if it doesnt give a harmonic, you cant do tapped harm. on it. hope i helped, if your still confused tell me

I'm confused. I read somewhere that harmonic tuning is inaccurate. Harmonic tuning is way easier though, once you have the technique its really easy to hear when the strings are out of tune
