damn, you're an asshole. its just not typical of classical music to have a modulation in the third beat then again a measure later. the ambiguity created by the extensions makes it possibly to do these crazy modulations (up a minor third in giant steps) and use funny non-chord tones. it also appears to me that i am not, as you implied, a jazz prick, but you sir, are very much a classical prick.

it is different man. if you look at the changes to the very song you're commenting on, its a lot more than just extensions and subsitutions. its in a three keys, and the first modulation occurs three beats in. i'm not saying its better than classical music, or anything, but it sure is lot more complicated than you're making it, and it is distinct from classical once you get into parker and coltrane changes.

yes, jazz harmony is an incorrect term, however the harmonies used in jazz tend to be different than that used in classical. (Maj7's for example). jazz isn't 'more advanced' per se than classical. just utilizes different harmonies and extended dissonances ect.

i see what i missed- the chords on this transcription for the head are written for a piano or some other chordal instrument, and once the solo starts it switches to be notated for saxophone, which is written a whole step above other instruments like guitar bass and piano. That accounts for the chords being moved up a half step but still sounding the same. The solo does often fit into the chords, thats part of why its amazing:it is still musical, you can still "hear him", despite its complexity.

That true, but it should also be noted that without technicality there is no music either. Many non-musicians have a very romanticised view of the way music is created and they don't realised that the greatest part of it is the result of hundreds upon hundreds of hours of practice. Music is an art form but for the most part all art forms consist of acquired knowledge and technique that is then applied in order to create emotion.

Great song, I remember listening to this song several times when it came out on the radio. I watch the video and recognized the lady. Then remembered a movie I saw her in with Kathy Ireland. Did some searching for the movies Kathy did and found the movie. I looked her up and to me it looks like her name was audie england. She did quite a few handful of movies in the 90s.
