im afraid that happened already under Clinton. (im norwegian, so for me Dems or Reps are both just as far away from my reality as the other) The thread above that states that Bush confronted congress about it is correct. So i dont think you can blame one side here. Blame them both, Clinton started it, and the Reps saw it coming but never managed to do anything about it. Your governments are controleld by the markets, not the opposite. This is what you get.

Note: The word "but" is used when the proceeding comment is contrary to the first, and often QUALIFIES it. Let me stress the last part again since you're all missing it: "BUT SERIOUSLY (this indicates that the part prior was in JEST) I LOVE it and it is TOTALLY TRUE" I'll not use difficult grammar like conjunctions and literary mechanisms like sarcasm anymore as it is lost on some.

Actually, in 2001 and 2003 Bush expressed his concern about Fannie and Freddie loans being very risky and not being adequately regulated. Hence he asked congress to do something about the situation. However, Barney Frank and Charles Schumer objected to Bush's concerns saying that both agencies were doing well and complained that Republicans were mean spirited and unconcerned about low income people. Well, the Dems won but Bush was right.
