Sea turtles are solitary creatures, even babies. A little oil from helping hands wouldn't hurt, but they probably shouldn't be handled as much as this video shows. Babies are in much danger when hatched, so often people protect them until they can be released in the ocean at night safely. In Florida, streetlights are turned off during hatching season esp if known nests are nearby as the babies head for the lights instead of the moonlight shining on the ocean.

What I hate though, is when humans interfere with nature, like moving the eggs for example, or collecting the baby turtles to release, not right after they hatch, but at night, so they can make a big spectacle about it. That's exploiting these animals for the pleasure of humans. And who's fault is it that sea turtles are becoming endangered? Not the birds...

Wow, so defensive. I'm not the only one that was mislead by this video, so maybe the poster should have included more footage. I don't really mind it when birds eat the eggs, because that's nature, and there is, or was, an equilibrium in nature when it came to the food chain.

They dig them up right after they are laid to protect them. Perhaps you should go to Mexico or somewhere else the sea turtles lay eggs so you would know. They move them to a safe spot, and when they hatch they move them back into the ocean. If they didn't the birds would dig them up and eat the eggs, and eat most of the babies before they crawled back into the ocean. This way more of them may survive.

wow some people needa learn their facts -_- i went to costa rica, one turtles lays atleast 50 eggs, and i actually sat there and watched one, the mother turtles dont give a shyt if u watch. Also laws protect these turtles, so it's not like we go and take a big shyt in the hole that these turtles dig and lay their eggs

Oh gosh, the mummy made her nest right in the middle of a people spot! Or, maybe it wasn't a people spot at the time, I think it takes a while for them to hatch. Well, you did say unprotected area, but I guess the mother wasn't afraid of people. That's not a good thing. But, it's a good thing these people found them. :)

a conservation society in Puerto Vallarta released them into the ocean that evening. They make a big deal of it, letting people see the release. This nest was not in a protected area and had it been found by other people these little guys probably wouldn't have survived.
