There are many power trios in music...Cream, Rush...ELP...Dada. Nothing compares to the guitar power of these three gents. I was lucky enough to see them in the 80's (with Steve Morse!) and it was the ultimate guitar experience. If only the technology was available to capture that night in Elizabeth, NJ in 1984. *sigh*

you all must know that is harder to play a spanish guitar than the acoustic ones. you can have some mistakes with the acoustic but no one with the spanish caouse sounds really bad.

Are you sure Paco plays with two fingers???? I always thought he used to play with his three fingers. Now, I am totally dissapointed with myself because I can almost get the same speed as him but with one more finger. I think he is not human!

man these three are just incredible....no point in arguing. I'd be happy to have the skills as any of the three and they are three of my favorite players. Paco is a straight flamenco player so you can't complain that the others aren't as natural as him...thats what he plays. But it's not like Paco is gonna be heard on a Mahavishnu cd or dueling with dimeola on race with devil on spanish highway haha.

i think they're all sort of equal when it comes down to it, mclaughlin is more unique, de lucia displays amazing technique, and di meola has the ability to play astunningly fast AND clean which is especially difficult considering he is playing a steel stringed guitar

He uses tow fingers. Three is for tremolo and rasgueo. He can play as fast as he can think since he was very young, he says in a documentary called Francisco Sanchez that he learned to play at the same time he learned to speak, like he has always knew.

They are all very good, I dont think you can say who the best is. Meola is very technical and fast, Paco is very expressive, and Mclaughlin just pwns.

Although Paco is one of my favorite guitar players, talking about complex parts, John Mclaughlin owns...he mixes times, silences and modes in an amazing creative way..if you try playing licks of the 3 you'll see.... in spite of this, the 3 express their feelings in different ways and I like 'em all, :)

On the audio concert website JAZZFUSION(dot)TV , there is a good 1983 Trio concert recorded at Beacon theatre , New York . Sound quality not great , but its ok , they are mostly doing numbers from the 2nd album . There are also concert opening songs by Steve Morse.

al di meola is my favourate. if you look for medetarranian sundance it looks like he compose it. anyway he has really gentle music. john mcglaughlin and paco de lucia can play but it just sound slightly random. almost like scales played ove and over again.

You know what's amazing? This was mainstream television only 12 years ago. I'm looking up at the NBC peacock logo in the top right hand corner and thinking "Wow! If TV had stuff this cool on it, I'd watch it all the time!" There is no stupid reporter, no flashy logo. Just a nice, thoughtful 10 minute report on these 3 great musicians.
