Uh, yeah. I'm a girl and I think Bobbie Gentry's hot! Best version of fancy, in my opinion.
By: wolfkarel. on 09 Oct 08, 20:45:47
Reba's over rated.
By: wolfkarel. on 09 Oct 08, 20:45:08
Man that is one fine woman!
By: tomtomstop. on 06 Oct 08, 15:15:56
Love this Bobbie track, not heard the version from Reba (it is McIntyre right?) - my mum is in to her so I'll chase it down, am intrigued to here her cover after all the positive reviews on this video!
By: myview28. on 05 Oct 08, 20:49:05
Reba? You take her seriously. Now come on xxx123 you can't be serious.
By: queenblanche. on 04 Oct 08, 00:46:57
Yep,I think that Reba's pretty much got the song all nailed down.
By: annigeturgun. on 28 Sep 08, 16:53:31
Thats the highest praise, isn't it!
By: danieldrownr. on 24 Sep 08, 23:23:20
tedwinward: The red pantsuit is another Bobbie Gentry original! She designed many of her outfits. This tasty number was the one she wore on the cover of her London produced 1968 album 'Local Gentry'.
By: tedwinward. on 21 Sep 08, 22:16:28
Reba-Schmeeba, dears. For another thing this clip has a brilliant set design, and Johnny Cash on the front end of the thing. Also, that is one cunning little toreador number she is wearing. Kudos to the apparel designer, the songwriter, and the (likely Nashville) musicians evoking The Memphis Sound here. I commend that other performer for her good taste in covering this song, but her partisans online--those below, who don't like to share--can eat their McEntire hearts out!
By: danieldrownr. on 19 Sep 08, 20:59:24
Another interesting fact Rebas fans should know . The Bobbie Gentry original was one of HER favorite songs. Reba has stated in print that she "wore out the vinyl" playing the 1969 Bobbie Gentry pop, country,r&b and a.c hit of 'Fancy'
By: danieldrownr. on 19 Sep 08, 10:05:42
xxx. Ok: to each is own but to say Bobbie does not gave enough soul? There is nothing authentic about Reba's power vocal. Bobbie had so much soul her original of 'Fancy' charted on black radio. She remains the only woman in music history to successfully chart albums and singles country and r&b, not to mention pop.

im sorry but, ill give "fancy"s credit to bobby gentry but i still absolutley HATE her version...there just aint enough soul to the song that Reba brings. reba forever
By: julieannlevey. on 15 Sep 08, 20:07:52
Reba can't hold a candle to Bobbie anymore than Faith can hold a candle to Janice. And the people said . . .
By: ladyraven30. on 06 Sep 08, 13:34:53
amen to that...
By: danieldrownr. on 05 Sep 08, 22:43:17
delmina123. Your allowed and I'm sure Bobbie likes the several million she has received from the Reba cover too.
By: delmina123. on 04 Sep 08, 19:19:03
i like reba's version better
By: jaylamp. on 01 Sep 08, 08:02:23
The difference is that while Reba sings the song as though she's telling a third person story, Bobbie IS Fancy. There is no comparison. This version is just far, far superior.
By: Danielmutt. on 27 Aug 08, 18:06:33
Wowwee What a SMOKIN vidio. Bobbie has a fantastic and pure Country voice. I just luv that "Hah" before the line; "I may have been born just plain white trash".. Shirlgirlwhirl Many thanks for posting this vidio
By: hitopadidas. on 27 Aug 08, 10:06:16
Well.. I think that whilst Reba's version is nothing more than AWFUL country cheese for anyone who's not a country fan anyone can appreciate the deep deep soul of Bobbie's version. Just ask me, this is one of my favourite songs from my favourite female singer; and Ive been a hardcore hip hop'er all my life :D
By: lynzbh. on 26 Aug 08, 07:22:50
omg where was this found? Cash? Fancy? who could ask for more?
By: BrunetteLiana76. on 24 Aug 08, 09:05:10
No it wasn't! It was about a fictional character named Billy Joe McAllister who committed suicide because he was confused about his sexuality.
By: hollygugl. on 22 Aug 08, 14:17:21
what additude - love this version... great performance!!!!!!!!
By: swt32567. on 21 Aug 08, 16:56:07
WRONG. Listen to the words, read the book, or watch the movie Starring Robbie Benson. An ode is a tribute. The ode is to Billy Joe.
By: ectoteric. on 20 Aug 08, 14:08:53
LOL ...too funny! Bobbie's the BEST! :-)
By: danieldrownr. on 12 Aug 08, 21:21:50
Bobbie is the only former girlfriend of Elvis who never cashed in with a tell all book. Ann Margret, Cybil Shepard and many others rushed to the publisher to get seven figure contracts. Bobbie has been mum on her friend and fellow Mississippian for over thirty years.
