i just found the live bootleg "the shit hits the fans" live in oklahoma city 1988. so awesome about that boot. it was originally on tape. i read about it in my local oklahoma gazette where they talked about rare albums by bands either from ok or visiting such as the mats. love this band. listen to the hold steady and the gaslight anthem also!!!

one of the best unknown bands of all time - absolutely criminal that they are not as well known as REM or Nirvana. But then again - if they made it big, it could have ruined it for die hard fans - who seemed to identify with the 'Mats exactly because they never made it big. Westerberg is a great songwriter though - in his prime maybe as good as dylan.

However, I think out of the few films, I've seen of Louis Malle's. This is the one that was the one that was closest to any style of Goddard's and given that - The two stand right on Par. However Elevator, despites it's admitted technical mistakes, is one of the few films that leaves me pleasantly intoxicated. The Ending was well done. Sometimes with Goddard's punctuated endings, I feel briefly dislocated. Like someone slamming on brakes...

I appreciate your comment and I love Goddard. I don't think I really compare Louis Malle to Goddard - as I'm not sure I've seen enough of his movies to do so. But I love both Directors work and to me the styles are different. With Goddard, you're always taken on a trip - that's how I feel. Louis Malle brilliance is different. When I say ppl say he was ahead of the wave, I simply mean time-wise. I recently saw Director Wong Kar-Wai speak in NYC. Responding to a question,he said "Goddard is God".

everybody doesnt care for godard,but in my humble opinion he WAS the wave,he had his own style and was a rebel too,not everybodys cup of tea but he made incredible original movies with irreverent and sarcastic political-driven messages...as imperfect as godard can be in front of those guys, i rater vote for him as being an innovator,also ahead of truffaut, malle or the others(as much as i love them too)i think he was for the wave as fellini was for neorealism,they didnt belong entirenly

I suspect that, referring to an earlier post about the Pepsi mention, that Rialto wanted to use that term, "children of Mao and Coca-Cola," but were worried about legal action from Coke. (My legalese is rusty, but I suspect Coke can't do anything about the dialogue in the film, but can object to its use by Rialto in the advertising.) As such, perhaps Pepsi displayed a more willing sense of humor and allowed Rialto to name check them so long as the trademark was acknowledged.

This trailer, for the recent reissue, is aimed at American cinemagoers, so the used the term Pepsi Generation as that expression would conjure up images of young people in the Sixties among the target audience. However, in the film, the main character says "Nous sommes les enfants de Marx et de Coca Cola." Coca Cola, to French eyes, is more a symbol of American consumerism than Pepsi.
