'Cause we're talking three ear-splitting roars in succession, each rising in intensity above the other. And all the while Gerry Ryan cracks us up, especially when he greets the Estonian spokesperson and cuts her off, to her not-so-well-hidden discontent. Video duration: 150 seconds Maggie MacNeal performing "Amsterdam," the Dutch entry at the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest. One of my Dutch favourites, and one of my very favourites from 1980. A very classy, dramatic song, and a truly great performance by Maggie McNeal. She also took part for the Netherlands in the contest in 1974 as one half of Mouth & McNeal. Eurovision 1993 Slovenia Posted by: setheurovision94
Video duration: 179 seconds 1x Band performing "Tih de?even dan", Slovenia's debut entry at the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest. A strong debut that moves me deeply, excellently harmonised between the orchestra and the acoustic guitar. Slovenia didn't have luck with them in the voting, but I still say they came in with a bang. I actually kind of liked Luxembourg's song, to be honest... dreadful vocal, but the song itself was cute. And I didn't think much of the French entry, to be honest

Yes, now that you bring my attention to it, their votes were mostly spot-on. On the other hand, 7 points for Luxemburg and none for France?

Wasn't the Spanish jury's votes spot on this year? High points to the Netherlands and Portugal, 12 to Italy, 10 to Ireland, and only 4 to Sweden.

I like that song a lot myself, one of my favourites from '84 as well.

I think that the best was Finland. Kirka's ''Hengaillaan'' was amazing. The sound, OMG. Wonderful!

Alexis Kostalis is wonderful for Greece - once Scotland becomes independent and we host it I hope he tries Glaswegian! Theres a challenge!

Woop de do! I still cant stand the bloke - he is as smug as it gets - get rid of him!

The greek spokeperson, Mr. Alexis Kostalas, is a well educated and respectable person in the greek tv and the only spokeperson who speak in the native language of the host country every single year. Last year he spoke in finnish all the first part of his presentation!

On the scoreboard itself - sure the neon letters are cute, but other than that it's a dreadfully unimaginative design. I just want to fall asleep, looking at it - though it beats Germany's scoreboard the previous year in bland design (also, how on earth that vast audience could follow that tiny scoreboard is beyond me).

No problem with her personally, but I know she's been often bashed for her hosting gig here (just ask our Irish friend what he thinks of her), so my previous comment was on her defense really - esp. if one thinks she was only 19 at the time!
By: lwsmackie. on 12 Dec 07, 23:46:47
tasos, whats the problem with the host? I think she does a good job - far better than, say, Angela Rippon or Jan Leeming. She has a really nice laid back style - nothing worse than say that Isreali bloke in 1999 or ur Greek jury spokesman (sorry but he does my head in)

Perhaps this voting feels a bit of a cool-down after 1983, where almost every entry had a lot of fans in the audience, and the green room frequently showed us the reactions of the participants. This voting ought to feel more tense than it perhaps does, possibly because of just those little things.

Thanks! this was one of the only votings i have not myself!

Thank you so much for this, my friend! Finally someone has uploaded this one. Btw, seeing Desiree in what is always the most important role of a host, I think that, while certainly not great, she wasn't so bad after all. But, at least judging from this first part, the voting procedure was kind of monotonous, wasn't it? And the indifferent crowd - or the lack of pictures from the greenroom - certainly didn't help in spicing things up a bit.
