She did add a unique element. I think part of the problem is that the show is written IN ENGLISH. So singing in a different language than you're used to speaking can be an amazing challenge. Paloma San Basilio (Evita in Madrid) sang "All I Ask Of You" in concert, and you can see that she was seriously challenged. But in her own language, WOW! "No Llores Por Mi Argentina"

I just hope that if they plan on running a revival on Broadway (which I've heard a number of rumors for), they will use a true DIVA whose voice is powerful enough to take on this role. Just because Elena Roger is Argentinean doesn't make her a great Evita. She is good, but she is a far cry from being Patti LuPone, Elaine Paige, or Paloma San Basilio (original Madrid production in Spanish).

Some actors are BORN for certain roles. Elena Roger was an AMAZING Fantine in an Argentinian production (in Spanish) of Les Miserables. However, I don't believe she has the caliber of voice required for this role. It is probably one of the most demanding roles ever written for the musical theater. Philip Quast sounds great!

Hopefully you aren't saying that it's Philip and Elena that sound terrible! She is from South America, herself, and Philip Quast is one of the most amazing singers and actors to ever grace the English stage (his Olivier Awards can justify that opinion). I saw this live, and this video can not entirely do the production justice. No video can ever do any production of any musical justice, can it? ;)

Elena Roger is great. She has a great blend of singing/screaming at the audience during this particular song. That is was makes her more real, Eva Perone used to yell over crouds of thousands into her microphone. Watch some of the footage of Eva Perone and you'll see she is yelling to get people to rally for "her" cause. Elena's voice is perfect for it, as authentic as possible.

if it wasn't for that last riff, shona would not be held in such high regard. she's a good singer, but she doesn't have the strength and control to pull of this role. bear in mind, she only performs this once in a blue moon when kerry is out, and she sounds a bit sketchy here...so if she can't pull out a perfect performance once every few weeks, how would she do it 8 times a week? kerry's belt is extremely booming, and it has the quality and control, plus being pitch perfect.

ohh it does ..if u listen to kerry she more of a light voice because she sings through her cheeks..in the correct way ....but shona belts most of her song and oens her jaw..which would explain the problems she began to have..so obviously the power coming out of their mouths due to the shapes they make it obviously gonna effect the sound hence why wen kery gets to the belt part she opens her mouth more then usual to get the sound out ..like shona does throughout the song!

[JennyKerryEllis & lukiexx] Go onto google and download a programme called AUDACITY. It's free and only takes a few minutes to download. When you have it uploaded a song and there are options on there which allow you to change the PITCH (make it higher or lower) and to change the TEMPO (speed). You can also add many other special effects like an echo which is what I've added here. Hope this helps.
