No, 2509 Silver Link was scrapped. For the anniversery they made Bittern look like Silver Link, but now Bittern is back to black and green, no valances, and double chimney (Silver Link had single chimney & side valances)

Saw Dominion of Canada at Kings Cross when I was young - around 1952/3 perhaps. In rich BR green, nameplates shining, and unless I'm wrong,a silver bell. Seem to remember it was pulling proper old LNER teak coaches on the Aberdeen run. This wd have been on a Sat (possibly Sunday) morning. But no parents alive to confirm details for me. Absolutely beautiful locos and always gave me butterflies in the stomach to see them!

well if you think they got an A4 to 126mph in the 1930's imagine the level of performance that could have been achieved given another 70 years development........the top speeds may not be drastically increased, but reliability and efficiency certainly could have been.

i absolutly cant wait when diesel gose bye bye! and steam comes back. they cant afford to run electrical wire over all the tracks in the world. plus if the electricity faild it would stop and couldent move until the electricity came back on. with steam, if an engine broke down it could be reparid right on the spot or another was sent. speed dosent matter in my opinion. its the jorney and what you see along the way.

Beautiful, great and very reliable machines, yep! I have the old Airfix 00 scale kit, a friend of mine got it for me. I am planning on assembling it soon, scraping off most of the cast-on handrails and piping and replace it by brass and copper wire and stanchions, plus adding missing piping and perhaps some more detail. Love that steamer!

Does anyone know if the Swindon ones were better by £5,000 than the Crewe ones? I remember seeing one each at Shotton and east of Didcot, plus one with the rods off near Shrewsbury ready for scrapping in sidings next to route to Welshpool/ Aberystwyth.... sorry sight. Thanks for the footage.

Interesting video, yes it proves that you can build a OO layout outdoors, but surely in these smaller scales it looks more of a 'Train-set' than a model. Don't discount the larger scales as being too expensive, they can be just as cheap as OO if you're prepared to kit and scratch build. The right choice of plants can also give you a very convincing landscape.

If your lucky enough to have the money to afford a house with a big enough garden,you can go the 00 way with nickel silver track and get more in.Did you know that you can get nickel silver G scale track from Peco that doesnt need to be cleaned?It's a little more expensive but will save you alot of trouble.The choice as they say is yours,but in the current climate if you have £195K to spend on an average house with average garden lucky you!

i have a large lgb railway outside and a oo layout in the loft, i have bought a lgb track cleaning loco and to be honest it doesn't work as well as i hoped it would, i would love to have a oo layout outside because you could fit more in the layout in a smaller area compared to g scale, I am only 17 and spent most of my money from birthday and xmas and work from being tiny, i just worried what i will do when i move out and have to start over, or even if i can afford a house with a suitable garden

Are you joking? In California, land is very very expensive, and we DO have thousands of miles of land to the east of us, but very very little of it is desert. Mountains and great planes are not the same as deserts. And you most DEFINITELY can NOT buy a few hundred acres for a thousand dollars. A thousand dollars will get you several square meters, perhaps. Even out in the middle of nowhere, 1 acre is still probably around 8-10 thousand dollars

The thing is is that it is always under the layout and never visible. While it is not required for DCC, on a large layout its purpose is to supply the whole layout with even current and prevents voltage drops, since copper wire conducts electricity much better that nickel silver rail and rail joiners. And if you haven't already started, might I recommend buying the book DCC Made Easy by Lionel Strang.

Foxfield Gala 2007

The high point of the industrial preservation calendar, the Foxfield Railway gala took place on July 28/29 with six engines in steam. Visitors were Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST No. 22 from the Bowes Railway and Hawthorn Leslie 0-4-0ST Asbestos from the Chasewater Railway.

The system is set up so that when you reduce power, the locomotive 'coasts' with clanking rods. Re-apply power and the exhaust 'chuff' returns. The function keys provide sounds of injectors, blowing off steam, firehole door opening and closing, buffer 'clash', and coupling-up.

This is Brian's first crack at a three-cylinder locomotive and the sound is very different. These models have been set with a low top speed in order to make demonstration simpler, but 'production' models would have more realistic speed settings. This model also has the various injector and blowing off sounds, plus the distinctive Bulleid whistle.
