I'm glad I had other places to show Felix aside from Manhattan. Staten Island life is somewhat suburban, but our beaches can't compare to Fire Island/Long Island. You should check out Fire Island next time you're in NYC. It's an easy trip by train from Manhattan if no car, Many people take the train even for a day trip(just as long as you don't miss the last ferry from the island at night!)

The weather and everything else was right about that day! I took so many pics and video on the ferry and Manhattan. I rode the ferry 4 times,mainly for the pictures, and had 3 beers on the boat.(the one form of transit that allows beer). I'm surprised this video did not come out more unsteady than it already is ! Enjoyed this Arthur. A few decades ago when I was a young bride, we left from Pier 42 on a ship bound for Norway. I don't know if they even take passengers across the ocean anymore. Mostly southern cruises now. Took us 10 days to reach Norway. Thanks for bringing back some great memories which I have on 8mm film.

What area do you live in? If you live in the eastern United States, I would probably say either a Black Racer, or a Black Rat Snake... If your more towards the west coast, then there are other species of kingsnakes and such, that can appear solid blcak and reach that size..

It depends on where you live and what type of snake. You need a permit for a deadly snake, like a mamba, in most places. Garters are usually OK to keep as long as they're not a rare, endangered species.

Hi ! Yes, I let it cool in the pan before releasing. Usually, after baking I leave cheesecake out for 20-30 minutes on the counter. Then I put it in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, but 4-5 hours(or overnight) is better. Before I open the pan, I'll slide a butter knife btween the cake and the pan. One more thing! lol I've used parchment paper on the bottom and sides of the pan, makes it easier to remove the whole cake at one time.

I thought I had gained at least 10 lbs. during the holiday, so I dared to jump on the scale and was happy to see I hadn't. But things must have redistributed because seriously, there is at least a cheesecake on my ass right now ;) Mmm, I have a sweet/sour chicken recipe that I did in the slow cooker that I filmed. Still haven't posted it. But what I found was it tasted better the next day instead of the evening it was done. Weird, huh?

Arthur...herons love to eat pond fish. There is a system to keep them out of the pond..it involves making a barrier made of two squares of string placed around the pond. The string barriers are suspended about six inches off the ground. Heron enter the pond by walking into it..if they encounter the string on their legs they fly away..they will not land in the water...I've seen commercial pond suppliers using this..

We had to put a funky UGLY screen lid on our little outdoor pond---which is actually an ugly black tub--but the lid did keep the racoons away. My fish still die for what seems like no reason at all, so you can't win. I think one of my only beauties is dead in the pond now. Need to check and dread it. :-(

What kind of green herb (if that's an herb) is in the sausage? I once had a sausage that was infused with rosemary and it was heaven. It tasted like a Christmas tree. I know that sounds odd, but rosemary is from the spruce family, isn't it? Anyway, it did have a spruce scent flavoring, and the eggs that came with the sausage tasted like flocking. (Okay, it was Christmas time and my imagination got the best of me).

This is so beautiful!! I guess they are on their way to Mexico now for the winter. Driving on a highway near here about a month ago there were literally thousands in a (swarm?) heading south. It was quite the sight and difficult to avoid hitting any with the car. Vehicles actually pulled off the road. Well done! Hugs~Nancy

I'm about getting ready to scream at my balcony garden Gardenia that is budding but not blooming because we're having late "cool weather."
