What, the theme's debut? If that's the case, then the NMSA's entry on TM's Spirit needs to read 1984-1992, as this theme was WFAA's first theme to be used since ditching the TM theme. If WFAA used TM's Spirit from 1984-1991 as the NMSA suggests, then this theme must've debuted as soon as 1992 began.

In this newscast they mention Somalia and how President Bush was going to give an address...and in another story they mention "President-Elect" Clinton. The close showed 1992 in the copyright, so it had to be November or December of 1992.

KXTV's '96 Spirit ...

KXTV's '96 Spirit of the West branding was in tact right up until the Belo/Gannett tradeoff with KVUE on Jan 1st, 1999. Now instead of the Belo tag which all Belo stations use these days with the American Flag on the left, they use the Gannett Deathstar but without the infamous sounder. KXTV plays the Gannett ID only after News 10 Midday at 11 AM M-F. I really wish KXTV never got sold and had still been with Belo so that they could still use sprit which is one of the best themes ever!

They never got to use '96 SA theme because of the fact that they were being sold in 98-99 to Gannett with KVUE-TV in Austin. They adapted "The Spirit of the West" and the KXTV '96 theme which does sound like Spirit before they used "This is Your News" and their current KXTV custom theme in 2005-06 by Gari. KXTV for a time from 1985 until 1988 branded themselves as "The Spirit of California" and since KXTV and KHOU were bought from Corinthian Broadcasting, they adapted the theme.

I believe KXTV, like WFAA and KHOU before it, used TM's Spirit in the 80's. For sure WFAA and KHOU used Stephen Arnold's Spirit (1996-2004 for WFAA, at least), but I don't know if KXTV got to use it.

I see, but did you know at this time, KXTV 10 in Sacramento (which was a CBS affiliate and a Belo property at this time) syndicated to Belo stations a teen show called "Scratch" which starred Mark S. Allen and a very young Lisa Ling? Anyway, KXTV had somewhat of a variation of this theme from 1991 until 1998 when the station was traded to it's current owner Gannett as well as it's affiliation change on 3/6/95 to ABC)

Couldn't have been '91. '91 they were still using TM's Spirit. This theme must've debuted at the beginning of 1992, unless WFAA decide to use TM's Spirit for a few months in '92. But the NMSA says they used TM's Spirit from 1984-1991, so who knows.
