The russians alone could not have defeated Germany considering the massive losses they took And all of mainland Europe was also either axis or defeated and G.B. was barely defending itself, and nearly all of Asia was under the heel of Japan. Americans still think the battle of normandy was what won the war. Trully they did it so they could feed their people with an unreal feel of domination, and get a share of the victory, most likelly to have a place to step against the soviets. America did not risk much on that war, hitler was collecting his pieces by that time. Both U.K. forces and the red army of the soviet was what liberated the hole europe. War ended with the soviet flag over Reichstag after the Battle of Berlin in May, 1945.

Actually the German air force was defeated and significantly weakened in the Battle of Britain, before they had even considered invading the Soviet Union! So overated that 1000's lost their lives in France? Total bullshit. Without D-Day the Germans would have moved far greater numbers towards Russia and cruched them. D-Day was essential and made the Germans fight on both fronts. Also over looked is the English Channel! A huge abstacle in comparison to anything on the eastern front. Without a second offensive in France Russia would have been crushed. That and very poor re-sup lines in the east.

Where did you get this info? I talked to a former arvn jet pilot who told me that after the americans pulled out, they put smaller fuel tanks on the jets they left for ARVN so they didnt have the range to go past DMZ.

I agree with you about ARVN. Those guys were tough. No helicopters for them. They walked. They drank paddy water and got little food. The Americans could leave when the going got tough, but ARVN fought till the end against enormous odds. I wish it could have ended differently. South Vietnam would have been better off had the americans never gotten involved. The US's biggest, stupidest mistake was to kill Diem.

The US pretty much sacraficed South Vietnam once they found a better deal in China. I think it was right to normalize relations with china, but we never should have dumped vietnam. Vietnam was ouir responsibility. We destabilized the government by killing Diem, so we should have stayed for the duration, like we did in Korea. All those NVA tanks should have been destroyed while they sat at Dong Ra, after the marines blew up the bridge. The USA never put its full weight behind the effort to crush the NVA, even though Nixon and Kissinger had ample knowledge of its movements.
