im not a fan, i liked her original version of this and the christmas ditty she did, not much else besides.i think technically she has great vocal ability but generally i don't like to lisen to her sing because its nearly always over the top. i mentioned tom waits because he's a perfect example of someone who hasn't got that big perfect voice but who sings with genuine passion and emotion. he is one of my favourite singers in spite of his gnarled vocal's.

You say you're a fan of hers, then you finish your sentence with "i'd have tom waits over mariah and he's got a voice like a busted engine", so no you dont like her, because she never sings simply, her songs are never simple. my favorites are Pavarotti because i was looking for a particular video and was doing that as a means of keeping track. i like all types of music and singers, even mariah when she sings simply. you call me close minded but can't bring yourself to admit that just maybe your idol had a poor performance. singing is not about having the biggest most powerful voice, it's about delivering a song in a beautiful honest way. i'd have tom waits over mariah and he's got a voice like a busted engine.

Excuse me? Not a good vocal performances. You are obviously not a fan of anything other than classical music. I can see most of ur videos or "favorites" are Pavarotti. So please dont be so closed-minded(like most classical music fans are) as to bad talk Mariah, she is amazing and you cant take that away from her. Her lower register is amazing for a womans voice. Please dont respond I dont see the point in arguing with someone as closed-minded as you.

she may be talented but you're fooling yourself if you think this is a good vocal performance. she finish's well but her tone and vocal control in the lower register has gone really bad, i think she'd admit this herself. as for vocal acrobatics there's a place for it but when you use it in every single line you sing it ceases to add anything to the song and will leave any intelligent listener wondering if the singer is really feeling the song or just getting off to the sound of their own voice

Dont be retarded, you want vocal acrobatics...look up beyonce. Mariah and pavarotti are no where alike, her voice quite authentic...how can you say it isnt. You obviously dont appreciate the different textures and dynamics Mariah uses in her vocal performances. I dont think you can get more smooth than mariahs vocal transitions, she is truley UNIQUE AND TALENTED!! MARIAH WE LOVE YOU!

wrong wrong wrong....mariah killed this with over the top vocals, why is she stretching lines out to death like at 0:42 or 0:55? can she not just sing the song straight? i like her original version of this but she's not doin a good job here. pavarotti's vocal is so much more pure and authentic. i believe him when he sings can't say the same for mariah here.
