david archuleta should have won season7 hands down. after john lennon, nobody except DA has ever came close to bringing justice to the song "imagine". indeed, david archuleta is truly a class all his own. until this day, i couldnt imagine how he'd lost.

Evendizzier, well said. David has tremendous respect for the original songs and their artists. He sings them because he loves the songs, and only slightly modifies them. David's performance of Imagine has given it new, current meaning, and has brought it to the forefront again. Yoko Ono has been quoted as having loved David's version of the song.Nobody will ever replace John Lennon. All David wanted to do was sing a song he loves, and boy, did he ever do a magnificent job of it.

It's fine if you think John Lennon is unsurpassable..besides, i don't think David Archuleta is trying to surpass him either..he's just trying to sing his interpretation of John Lennon's song,and IMHO,he's done a very very incredible job.. he's not the same with john lennon,he's just singing lennon's song in his own way.. sometimes you have to take you fanaticism glass off and just enjoy it..David's a great singer

David's version of "Imagine" is incapable of being surpassed in my opinion. His version is equally good as Mr. John Lennon's. David's voice is so angelic and pure when he sings this; it is so amazing because it is like you can actually "feel" the song when he sings it. All I can say is that I was speechless after hearing this performance. David, you are simply amazing! :D

John may have not have been the best singer but David will never be able to match the unique, raw talent that is John's unsurpassable voice. It Is John's heart that is unsurpassable. Just because U2 is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, that doesn't means Cook's version automatically fails. It's still an opinion. Cook has loads of emotion, but has little time to express it here being they only get a couple of minutes per song. It's not like he is in a recording studio and has practiced this song over and over. His voice sounded great and he did a great job...my opinion.

The nice thing is...its opinion! And the opinions of millions seem to outweigh your's considering U2 is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But to stay on topic of the video, David is a good singer but I think he failed to capture the emotion that exists in the lyrics of this song. And since he failed to capture it he failed to express it which puts it below U2's performance of the song.

ok, sorry but I disagree with you on the vocals, I have heard all three of the songs by the original artists and as far as the aerosmith song goes, I actually prefer David's version. This song under normal circumstances isn't one I listen to very often and I think he sounds just as good as U2, "Dare you to move" when he sang it made me love it even more than the first time around. He may not be around as long as some of the older bands have been but I'll love listening to him just the same.

No, I don't like Archie nor his kind of bubblegum music but I know a lot of people like that kind of sound and he should do well. They both have different genres and audiences. Hmm...to each their own. Cook closes his eyes too if you watch once in awhile. David hardly licks his lips anymore, so whatever. And woo-woo, hm...I've heard Cook do this too. There are royalty issues so producers have to get the songs cleared first from the original artists. Archie added "my boo..." to a song and was told not to because he was part of another song & he did anyway to make the song more "hip" and the producers were pissed off because they didnt' get it cleared. Some artists don't want a particular singer doing their song because they don't want it butchered so they don't give permission. Doing covers of covers don't apply though & no permission req'd.

I don't have anything against Archie but frankly I got bored with him farily early on. A lot of them bored me but Cook never did. I thought I would shoot myself if I had to listen to another ballad of Archie's. He's a sweet kid & he was a good voice but the "woo-woo" & the eyes closed & licking of lips etc., was very annoying. He looks & acts 12 so I'm not into kids singing & a constant diet of ballads. Now he's doing tween pop-why didn't he do that during A.I.? It was like he was programmed.

Well, first, one song was picked for Archuleta to sing, not his fault. The second song David chose and did a FANTASTIC job on you cannot deny that. The redone Imagine was not David's first, second, third or even fourth choice. The producers would not clear songs David wanted to sing. Cook didn't have the producers not clearing songs. And as for risk taking, you don't know much about music if you think Archuleta didn't take risks. Unfortunately, many of his risks were denied.

Hello Idolfans 2008 - just a note of history here. I always liked Jason, but "Over the Rainbow" is not by Israel K (although he also did a nice version of it). The music was written by Harold Arlen and the lyrics by E.Y. Harburg for the movie The Wizard of Oz. YouTube has a vid. of Judy Garland singing it first.

I had the pleasure of meeting David in NYC yesterday at the Virgin Megastore. The crowd was huge and totally in love with him. He was so friendly and warm to everyone who came to the desk for an autograph. He looked me in eyes and thanked me for my kind words to him. Although songs like Angels and Imagine are wonderful, I still believe that this performance of Love Me Tender ranks as the best and most moving performance in the 7 year history of American Idol.
