That's the fun part. With the splash guards on the pontoons I no longer get water in the prop. And my landings no longer bounce. ;-)

my first plane was an rc supercub.
By: Halichopter. on 09 May 08, 02:32:56
Well I flew lots of foamies and even helicopters and crashed the Cub instantly due to a spin stall. Now you are correct the floats help somewhat and the water is more forgiving than dirt. ;-)

I bought the PNP .40 size Cub with floats for my first airplane, and I found it to be very easy to fly both from land and water. The floats act as a counter balance so it reacts a little slower with them on but overall I thought it was very easy to fly. Its very stable and I think it's fine for a first airplane. I would recommend flying from land first though, the water can be a little tricky. I have a private pilot license which probably helped a little and I also used a r/c sim

Definitely not a good first choice for R/C. Start with the 'Slowstick' it is cheap and slow (like the name) and easy to fly and rugged. You can buy good quality motor and battery or cheap. Good quality can be used as you upgrade to better, harder to fly, planes. The Slowstick is about $35 but the real cost is in the servos, motor, motor controller, battery, receiver and especially a transmitter. All of the components can be reused.

Well ok, so the way u mad this plane sounds was idk, sorta hard to fly. I've never flown a R/C plane before, so would this not be a good choice to get?
By: Halichopter. on 22 Apr 08, 01:58:10
Yes, I bought it without floats and I crashed on first flight even though I had many successful flights on other planes. It spin stalls really easy. You have to keep speed up and not be too hard on rudder and aileron at the same time. The floats helped because crashes were more forgiving. I don't crash now but be careful.

So Ok my guess is u bought the plane without floats first right? If so, was it hard to lear how to fly the cub cause I'm looking at buying one.

now thats what i call fly fishing!
By: Halichopter. on 25 Feb 08, 00:49:44
yup. got to get rid of this and replace it with a video of better landing. I've had a year flying the float Cub since the 'maiden voyage' and improved my flare drastically but everyone comments on my first landing!
By: shniperbv. on 24 Feb 08, 17:15:15
that was a hard landing lol

I'm not that familiar with boats, just planes and helicopters. But: 1. Electric much quieter (doesn't upset neighbors) Nitro (you definitely make a 'sonic' statement), kind of like muffler mods on trucks. 2. Nitro will run for a longer time than Electric. 3. Batteries are expensive but so is nitro fuel over time. 4. Nitro is messy, electric clean. 5. With Electric you are going in seconds, Nitro requires fueling, unfueling, glow, starter etc.

Hey Helichopter awesome video..What do you think of me purshising a eletric float boat are they just as kewl as the Nitro gassed ones?? sorry im a noob and i really want one of these

is this in lake austin? reply
By: Halichopter. on 05 Dec 07, 00:20:30
Yes, it took me a while to fix this but I added some plexiglass strips on the inside edges of the pontoons that direct water away from the propeller. Works like a charm.
