Music is a form of communication.Can you hear the words in the music? Can you feel something? If you can its good music. This is is technically proficient but I wonder if my emotion is tied to the original artist. I want to hear something he wrote that moves me.

Exactly my views. Music is about transmitting feelings. Jimi Hendrix could do that to me. This guys is a good musician and a great virtuoso but I don't think I would buy one of his CDs myself. I also miss some silences...

this guy is probably second best acoustic guitarist, after paco. im sure most people can agree that paco is the worlds greatest acoustic guitarist. but dont get me wrong, this guy is good.

Say what you want about Monte, as a long-time musician and engineer, I can say he is one of the best guitar players going today. I do agree with Fernicus that he could let his guitar breathe a little. But still, with his talent I don't care how he goes about it. You know, let an artist be an artist. As far as Hendrix goes, the reason these guys cover his songs is because he is still, by far, the greatest musician - not just guitar player - since before the 20th century.

I guess Monte Montgomery, Stanley Jordan, SRV, John Frusciante, Junior Brown, Slash and many many others should all take off their "screaming pre-teen fan" goggles. If Jimi was crap why do these cats cover his songs. Why was SRV obsessed with Hendrix.

People who can really play not only cover Jimi's songs, but place him stage center in the pantheon of guitarists - SRV, Junior Brown, Slash, Stanley Jordon, and yes Miles Davis (There is a whole song dedicated to Hendrix on Bitches Brew) Hendrix was groundbreaking the same way that Django Reinhardt was totally original. Some of these other guys are technically brilliant, but 100 years from now people will be talking about Machine Gun in the same breath as John Coltrane solos.
