It might be worth posting the speakers name and the name of his organization. Sometimes Christians lie about qualifications. Given that the title of the lecture was blatantly deceptive this seems to be a possibility. The "how/why" dichotomy is usually used to speak about moral knowledge vs scientific knowledge. Many Christians are willing to concede that snakes cannot talk and the sun does not orbit the earth, but they want their "morals" to be recognized as special.

Remember that the word ignorance comes from the same root as the word ignore. There is nothing pointless about disemminating information and facilitating dialogue. It is how knowledge increases and ignorance is eroded. It is also very damaging to religion and other false (horoscopes, conspiracy theories) and harmful beliefs (communism, fascism, racism, etc). Personally, I find it important to refute wildly dishonest claims in public forums, to help others (maybe you, maybe a third party reading them) to evaluate the merits of their own claims and ideas.

Well, you may have tried to avoid mean and insulting, but you hit condescending by assuming that my opinions are not based upon a lot of observation, reading, etc. The Bible claims the earth is flat. That the sun orbits the earth. That women are inferior to men. That wearing clothing made of two materials is somehow evil. Basic health laws? Physiological science? Well, get tired of me too then. Of course science disproves gods. That's why religion works so hard to discredit and lie about science (esp in biology and birth control), and in the past killed scientists and surpressed knowledge. If your god is almighty, why doesn't it do anything? Science has answered what causes weather, disease, etc, etc, which is how science kills gods and religions. I still disagree that any science can disprove even literal Creationism. I'd like to hear some reasons you think this. I will research the fact that you give me if i dont have an immediate answer for it in reference to the Bible and as soon as i get one I will let you know. However, I believe that alot of evoltionist ideas and concepts are circular in reasoning and in actual thought. Thanks, I'll look into the eye thing I just get sick of atheists (usually very rude about it) telling me that science disproves God when in reality nothing could "disprove" an almighty God. Kirk Camron much? For record, science does account for the forming of the eye (an organ, not Organism). Check any creation debunker and they likely have a video on the subject. But you are technically right, science can't disprove religion and it doesn't really try for the reason it can't actually be done. Also, any gaps in the knowledge of science doesn't prove God. If it did, then science would be pointless. A lack of answers just means scientists still have jobs to do.

i really admire your honesty and pursuit of truth as well as hapiness. however, i want you to know that science does not contradict Christianity at all! its a common misconception that christianity is not backed by science when in reality there are things in nature that evolution or any other theory cant explain. for instance the human eye....such a complex organism could never have evolved succesfully. Another thing you should look into is the cause and effect principle of Philosophy. Good luck

Definitely agree with your thoughts here. Especially on teachers being professional and interested in helping kids learn. I've had many bad teachers, in particular one who insisted that the advanced curriculum stated we should be learning all the material by ourselves and she was only responsible for handing out materials (by the way, the curriculum said nothing like that, she gravely misinterpreted it) It was very frustrating and I was even less interested in the material than I would've been.

Good point about the parents having to talk to their kids about education. There's only so much one can learn in the classroom. As people get older, people have to learn more on their own through their studies and also just in life in general. As people get older, school is much more important. In high school it seemed to be more about socializing, but I think as people get into college years it's important to take enough time out in the day to study and to try their very best in their classes.

Nobody even knows what the word beginning even means with respect to the universe. How can there be a before if time is a product of the universe itself and presumably does not exist outside of it? Not that this matters. An infinitely complex, intelligent being is more complicated than a mash of molecules. If you think our problems with the first cause are big, you should look at your own. That god is outside these rules is an unconvincing excuse, and a blatent attempt at avoiding reason.

There is some truth to this in general, she's not pandering in any way to men and is not responsible for how men react toward her. Many probably have a similar interest to my own which is seeing a bright young woman's process of thinking through these issues. "Weak" is misapplied in some cases here. Everyone forms their own opinions about things by looking at an endless sea of emotional, physical and mental evidence and circumstance. We, as atheists, see different combinations of these points than the ones religious people see. For example, weak true believers have weighed the evidence and come to a different conclusion. In terms of fake believers we don't know their circumstances and could be applying it to people who are extremely oppressed.
