Interesting but very old. the amiga had multi desktops you could slide to reveal behind the current one. And unlike window it was True multi-tasking, no windows-Halting when drive/network ativity happens. (YES the amiga os is antiquated but just wanted to point that out)

xgl is really nice, i use it on dreamlinux and it didnt even need to install, it comes out of the box with it, the efects are realy amazing even in my athlon xp 1.5 Ghz with a nvidia fx 5200.

You don't give enough credit to the functional benefits of rubbery-looking windows. Combined with "sticking" windows to other windows or to screen edges, the rubber appearance of windows provides highly intuitive visual feedback.

I was aware of XGL on Ubuntu for a while, but that's still a great little demo, good job!
