I only found out about him today. I wish I had known about him earlier. One of if not the best comedian in the world. Making people laugh without resorting to excessive swearing is hard to do but he does it easily. R.I.P Dave Allen

Tears were running dowm my face too! My belly hasn't bounced around in laughter so much since I was watching it with my parent's when I was about 12 and i'm 54 now and EVERYONE in the room was roaring with huge belly laugh's and tears streaming down their faces!Several of us were trying not to wet ourselves, but we didn't want to miss anything to go to the loo! He was THAT GOOD!! I didn't know he had died.I hope he is watching over our shoulder with a big grin on his face;a tall drink and fag!

1977 No alternate endings but great performance by Harry and the guys! Only problem is, the audience is lacking in enthusiasm. It was a taping of a German tv show, 'Rockpalast' and it looks like they filled the audience by paying people to be there and clap. Poor Harry! He works hard to get them interested, but they just don't get it. Should have let real fans attend.

It's great to see him do this live. I've been a Harry Chapin fan since I could walk, but given that he died eight years before I was born, I never got the chance to see him in concert. Thank goodness for videos, eh? It's kind of funny to hear the confused German people repeat back "of Bananas". They probably understand the word "bananas" but the rest of the song is probably completely lost on 'em. I wouldn't understand a German song any better.

If you'd had the opportunity to ask him, I'm sure Allen would have considered himself an Irishman, and the Godfather of British comedy. He lived and worked in Britain, I'm sure, because he appreciated the more secular society and, yes, living here therefore provided him with more opportunites. As such, his influence is firmly on British comedy. And don't forget, he stayed here after he retired; he clearly liked the place, as we loved him.

I'm really sorry bout the budgies. I'll have to redo afew of these. We just moved the birds to the other side of the house, so it should be easier to tape. I'll do it at night, though, cos in the day, since it's Spring, I have every songbird outside singing at the top of their lungs. Comes right thru the windows! can't win! I also remember the day that Harry died. My second husband and I were sitting in our living room and it came on the radio. And we sat there stunned and stared at each other in absolute shock. We didn't want to believe he was gone. Oddly enough I had also happened to catch Johnny Carson the first time he was on the show with "Taxi," and knew by listening to that one song he was going to be something else. I will always love "Circle" best.

Been a Harry Chapin fan for more than 30 years. Saw him in concert twice. This is the best version of a song by Harry by someone other than Harry that I have heard. The mixture of hope and sadness is just right. Can't imagine anyone else that could do it.

Of course, Dave Allen, not unlike Dermot Morgan, had to go to 'pagan' Englland in order to make a living... Needless to say, the holymolies in Dublin controlled things spiritual and temporal, would have none of Allen.
