Geo, it does not have to be mainstream. When was the last time Mainstream rock was good? Yep, the early to mid 90s. It was never the same after Kurt died. I agree actually. But Kurt Cobain admitted himself, if it wasn't for The Pixies Nirvana would've never came to be. Kurt Cobain listened to all these guys. A lot of the orginators of Grunge or Alternative music didn't reap the benefits that followed in the early 90's since many of them disbanded shortly before. Either way; Nirvana, Pixies, and My Bloody Valentine are all great mind numbing music.

A digital pitchbender with a foot rocker much like a Wah-Wah. A unsung revolution in 1990, and no doubt made Kev rethink much of the record at that point. There ain't a gazillion guitars. Theres a couple. No more than three overdubs at a time, the'yre just reamped, panned, and mic'd funny. It's 90% studio tricks, tremolo, distortion, and having the trem bar in your hand that gives it that texture. Plus loads of compression to take away picking attack. One guitar can go a LONG way.

hmm. Well, the narrator said that it took them "3 years" to record Loveless, which is inaccurate, it was actually two years, and judging by the fact that Loveless songs are present, I'll say 1992. Tragedy is, the band kind of died out around the same time.

As an additional comment, for those that have collected every MBV recording and long for more, check out the now defunct LILYS "In the Presence of Nothing" for something similar. No, it's nowhere near the genius of Shields and Co, but an interesting comparison. It's obvious who they loved...

One of the all time greats. The 91 tour was probably in the Top 5 shows I've ever seen. They blew the Lou Barlow-less Dinosaur Jr out of the water and Chapel Hill was left scratching its collective head during the 20m of solid feedback. The stuff is simply amazing and gets better on repeated exposure. No one like Shields and Butcher looks like a Godess, especially on stage. A Favorite for sure.
