Without sounding stereotypical, I love his music and that he is one of those down to earth "country" guys. Intead of some big-headed, ego-puffed rock star trying to show everyone how "big" he is. He uses his talent wisely and doesn't make it out as if he's superhuman like some of them do.

i'm not sure but i would guess maybe a low E tuning [3 steps down from G tuning]. similar to what john hartman used to do and bela fleck has done often on his recordings. i've played around w/ a low E tuning and it does open up a lot of possiblities on the banjo. there are other tunings but i havn't tried them.
