Response to Collision between Andromeda and Milky Way Posted by: artynz
Video duration: 63 seconds The original: http://nz.youtube.co m/watch?v=OcX1bmORbE 0 Wonderful simulation. Wonderful 3D effect. Well presented. Mistaken assumptions: 1. Blue shift means approach. Halton Arp has shown that the largest galaxy in a cluster (as Andromeda is) generally has an excess blue shift. It cannot be velocity. 2. Even if blue shift is approach, Andromeda will 99% chance miss us. of course they will hit! They are gravatational bound and in about 5billion years Andromeda and The Milky Way will begin to merge.

Well earthquakes are extremely difficult to predict and the best efforts are to be able to say that one is more likely than usual. But that might mean 0.001 chance against the usual 0.000001 or whatever. Agreed that human knowledge leaves many things unknown about the universe.

getting serious. I also am skeptik about the redshift true meaning. But I have a deeper question: in these years where we "discovered" that what we see is the 4% of the detectable, how can we make claims about the travel of 2 galaxies not bouned by the good old known gravity? They may bounce for dark matter, as a dumb example.... The deep problem, to me, is that Science has no courage to accept its limits. At least noone goes around suggesting the next earthquake, as we have no laws on it.

thanks for the good news, no collision!
