His music had a great deal of caring in the words. and the melodies just kind of stick with those of tender heart. If ever I was feeling low I could turn on his songs and in a few minutes I would feel better. Uplifting. I sure do miss him. At least we have recordings. When I learned he had died, I had the blues, deep low down blues for several days. Didn't go to work, used up my last three vacation days. I can't believe i cried,the comment about the warmth of the puppets touched me. My mom rented a hotel this night so we could see him in color, and we recorded it on cassette. I listened to this muppets tape growing up, and John tought me how to sing. I also agree with the comment he was not the same after annie and him split. I found myself in lake tahoe upon his death news,and sat around the bar in a casino singing his songs with all these women who heard that day. I sing pro now thanks to him.

No one is being critical of JD- just commenting his voice is obviously tired or strained from a long tour or being sick. Even when his voice was not 100% he still gave 150% in his performance- everyone would agree. He gave his "all" no matter what- no way you could be critical.

I must be listening to a different song than you guys. His voice broke only a few times, otherwise it was a strong performance. He sang 3 songs without stopping and with no drinks in between. Give the dead guy a break.

Even though John is having voice problems in this performance, I don't think I've ever heard him sing with more emotion. I last saw him perform in 1996, just about a year before he died. He was wonderful. R.I.P., John.

I think John Denver simply had second thoughts about being so honest in his 1994 autobiography - he admitted to being human - he got angry - he screwed around on Annie constantly - he communicated poorly - and he knew it. JD was the normal over achiever with a true gift from God - his music and that wonderful voice!!

There were many complaints about the movie because of inaccuracies of when events happened- ex: "Annie's Song" being written right before they divorced- not true- came out in '73/'74- divorced in '82. Ron (his brother) publicly blasted the movie and also complained that it was too shallow a version. As far as the book, I think JD thought it was too "tabloidish"- focusing too much on infidelites, drugs, etc. when there was a lot more to him. Having read the book I would tend to agree.

There are not a many photos of any of JD's three kids in recent years. One wedding photo of Jesse B. at her uncle's wedding last year she had black hair- (probably dyed) and looked at lot like the mom. Jesse B. (19 this month) and Ms. Delaney have been back in Australia where Jesse B. is studying art. Anna K. (31) and her husband Jamie live in New Zealand where they run a bed and breakfast place and Zak (34 this month) and wife Jennifer live in CO where he teaches.

I don't think there will ever be another singer as great as John Denver. My husband bought me his book on E-Bay for $40. I don't remember him saying why he and Cassie divorced, but it's been awhile since I've read it. I would love to see a picture of Jesse Belle. I named my horse after her, but realized I spelled it wrong. It was a priviledge to see him in concert so many yrs. ago. I was so excited when I found all of these videos on YouTube! He will always be remembered and loved.

Would agree with your "summaries" except with AD I think the his infidelities were the symptom of deeper issues because they did not communicate better at the time- like she was unhappy just sitting at home and he had all the fun seeing the world- he probably never would have asked to divorce her- he always loved her and she in many ways as well vice versa. AND I think at the end of his life they were talking a lot and realized a lot of that. The Ms. Delaney analysis speaks for itself!!

Astalley-I think we've got our lines crossed re which wife we're talking about. I read his biog & concur. Annie asked for a divorce,because of his infidelities. John however initiated the divorce from 2nd wife Cassie because she fooled around & with someone he regarded as a friend.He even got a restraining order to ban her from the house.He began to drink when she opted to make it a messy divorce & use Jesse as leverage for a large settlement. We tend to look at the negatives more harsley because we put these people on a pedalstall. I look at JD and remember the musical gift he left behind for generations to come. And for those human frailties of his, great songs were created because of them. RIP JD for we all miss you so...

Message to: Earthlinked. You're absolutely right. I never realized that until you wrote it here. I remember John's death. I was onboard a ship while serving with the U.S. Navy. We were heading for Japan. I heard the news over the radio and I didn't want to believe it. His songs, sung to myself while on many midnight watches aboard ship, brought me home when I was thousands of miles away. My little sister was killed at five years old and John was one of her favorites. I'll always love his songs.

Can't watch this one without shedding a tear. My favorite John Denver song and my favorite place in this world. Don't know if younger ones are aware, but John was an environmental activist, and worked with Jacques-Yves Cousteau to popularize the cause. He also testified in Washington against censorship of popular music along with Frank Zappa. He made great music, but that wasn't all.

Well, JD changed his hair a lot over the years- longer, shorter, straight, waves. I think he was blonder when he was younger- and remember he LOVED the outdoors so there was probably some natural lightening from being outside so much- which he did a lot in the 70's. As he got middle aged- like just about all of us he probably started seeing the gray coming and most likely did some coloring or highlighting- to more the dirty blonde/light brown look in his last years. His folks had lighter hair.

He was a folk/western artist who had some great success in the country charts. Look up what happened in 1975 when he won country artist of the year.. nasty.

This was Denver, Boise and Johnson, about 1968. What a pity that this line-up did not last long enough to produce an album. There was just one single. This track shows there was a great talent here, a star about to emerge. It would be just great if something like a live recording would yet emerge to fill this void in John Denver's post Mitchell Trio recording career.

As someone who's spent time in Alaska, I think JD has captured the majesty of that land beautifully in this song. He was so blessed with that gift, wasn't he? I can't be up there in the wild country without this song coming to mind again and again. Nice to see this video.

I often think of what he's have to say about this mess in Washington and Iraq, all the scandals, lies, crooks and plain dirty politics!! He'd have been the first to perform for the benefit of those families so affected by 911, to help them with needed funds, etc. JD disliked politicians greatly BUT was 100% an American, you could tell by what he said and did, and all the concerts he did in Washington and NYC and for the vets coming home from Desert Storm.
