Having worn it, let me tell you that greasepaint (as they wear it) is an immensely uncomfortable, sticky, HOT thing to wear. For the length of time they wear it, AND are physically energetic all that time,it's HOT! It must be special greasepaint, ultra sticky and thick, so to speak. Then consider they wear long sleeve jersey type things, AND long pants, AND gloves!!! I give them an immense amount of credit for a terrific performance while dressed in something that is very very uncomfortable!

Actually,it's not impolite at all.The phrase "know what you're really doing" means that she should figure out why she is doing the choreography as opposed to just doing it.The director could tell she had trouble connecting the action to the intention.The conversation after that probably went something like "you jump bec you cant contain your excitement.you turn bec you are looking around for something to help her with"It was not an insult,it was a logical and insightful thing to tell an actor.

Also the language thing as well, japanese has this very shallow vowels(it's hard to explain), the actors work hard to deliver the lines as clear as possible which sometimes sound unnaturally exaggerating. I missed this program, thank you for posting this video, it's so interesting!

hmm the director's "know what you are really doing" part, by reading the caption, I took it as "take your time, just enjoy it". Japanese(asian) bone structures are disadvantageous for singing(that doesn't mean they can't sing though), apparently the voice doesn't resonate well enough.

I'd like to see the translations too, not only in English but also in the romanized alphabet. It's too bad no one has responded to your post. Direct translations are very rarely singable, though, which reminds me of a terrific quote: "Translations are like lovers: The beautiful are not faithful, and the faithful are not beautiful." lol! I totally agree with everyone about this show. It was the best ever. So liberating, exhilarating, so freeing. When you go there, you expect to watch a show, but then you become immersed in it, part of it. It touches you and changes you. If you listen to the English soundtrack, you can pretty much define the words correctly. It's hard to translate from Japanese to English, because they have lots of words that we don't, and vise versa. Oh no problem (sucks not knowing Japanese) it was a pretty cool vid... I didn't know about it bcs I thought that Cats traveled around the world still the fact that the songs were all in Japanese quite got me there!! but thanks for the video It got me pumped up to see Cats again!!

I dont know why but ive listend to the broadway cast on cd and saw the london cast at the lyceum and i think the other productions like the Hamburg and Japan productions are better they put more emotion into it from the vids ive saw and the soundtarcaks ive listend to but i still think the broadway and london productions are great aswell and the japans rafiki has a amazing voice

Watching this is kida weird. I am used to seeing african americans(or just africans) play these african roles. I am used to hearing African voices sing the songs, watching it is not the same as having a real african cast. No other race can do this play as good as we can.
