What the hell are you talking about? lol

I don't understand what you are arguing about. I completely agree with the premise of prosperone's posts. And the fact that you haven't agreed with that premise just shows that you are trying to maintain some sort of e-pride because nobody wants to admit they're wrong on the internet. Sad, but what about this actual video? Chris Broderick just shows you how he's such a varied individual and shows you this fantastic rendition of this classic. Very versatile guitarist.

Once again, there's no close-mindedness on my part. Rap has been around for around 30 years, or more in the mainstream. I've definitely given it a fair shot. Sounds like you're the one being close minded. : )
By: Itheprosperone. on 21 Sep 08, 10:55:37
I only can't convince you because you're too close-minded to actually listen.
By: yngvaigilbsteen. on 21 Sep 08, 09:17:51
again...we'll just have to agree to disagree because it doesn't sound like I'm going to convince you otherwise (not that I was trying), and you're certainly not going to convince me. : )

There is good music and art in every genre. There are extremely talented musicians and artists in every genre. It may just be over some peoples heads to recognize talents in music that they do not understand or enjoy. There are some actually rappers, not just producers, that are extremely talented. I used to think like you but that was when I was 13 and so close minded that I only listened to two or three genres of music. Listen to the Gift of Gab and you'll hear a true talent of the rap world.
By: yngvaigilbsteen. on 21 Sep 08, 05:49:58
I said there was art in the production because the production on a lot of rap tunes is very good. However, I'll use your line back on you. Just because there are million of people who see it as a valid art form, doesn't mean they are correct. : ) Also, it certainly doesn't demand the same caliber of skills that real musicians have to master. Keep in mind I'm considering art and music to be one in the same because good music is an art. : )
By: Itheprosperone. on 21 Sep 08, 01:48:27
You don't have to like it AT ALL. You just can go around saying things such as "There's real art and technicality in a bunch of other styles (except for rap, of course)" when that simply is not a fact. It is 100% a FACT that there is technicality in rap and very technically sound rappers. The same goes for art. Just because you may not see it as a valid art form, that does not negate the millions who to see it as so. Don't have to like or enjoy it to acknowledge it has artistic talent and merit.
By: yngvaigilbsteen. on 20 Sep 08, 23:30:29
So by that rationale...I should like everything regardless of how poorly, or well it's done? Just because it's someone's self expression, doesn't mean it's good art. There's no close-mindedness going on here. Rap has been acknowledged, noted and discarded by myself and many other musicians. It had it's chance. And, although it doesn't apply to me in this case...yes, ignorance is bliss. : )
By: Itheprosperone. on 20 Sep 08, 16:38:10
Well just let me know one thing then, is ignorance really bliss? Being close-minded towards any genre of music will only have negative effects on anyone truly aspiring to be a good musician.
By: yngvaigilbsteen. on 20 Sep 08, 04:36:11
Sorry...we'll just agree to disagree. : )
By: Itheprosperone. on 19 Sep 08, 22:16:34
Your misjudging a whole genre because you don't listen to it. The majority of mainstream anything doesn't require much skill or dedication. This goes for rap, country, metal, rock n roll, blues or whatever. You have to SEARCH for true talent in any genre. 90% of anything on MTV, the radio or media outlets is garbage...this goes for all genres. Check out The Gift of Gab, Jurassic 5, Saul Williams or Lupe Fiasco. Those guys are true rap talents and have musicality equal to any other genre.

Because when I downloaded the video that was the title to the video , I'll fix it.

or because anyone that can talk can "rap" i guess is the term
By: syndicatedmetalhead. on 13 Aug 08, 21:21:44
why are these named this double 3 caprice no7 op 20?
By: yngvaigilbsteen. on 22 Jul 08, 00:01:55
You are correct. : ) It's not even a matter of opinion. lol Rap simply doesn't require this much skill or dedication. Which...is one reason it's popular. It's entertainment for the masses. : )
By: abominae1. on 21 Jul 08, 20:27:53
Rap is for the most part talentless. There are some rappers who are mildly talented but they cannot match the brilliance of someone like Chris IMO.

By: yngvaigilbsteen. on 25 Jun 08, 03:08:07
Thanks. Yeah, I love classical music (and some jazz), but I don't think those players should look down on other forms of music. There's real art and technicality in a bunch of other styles (except for rap, of course) I apologize if anyone on this forum likes rap/hip-hop. The producers are good. lol
By: ZWOZ4LIFE. on 24 Jun 08, 21:10:15

By: escaban1. on 17 Jun 08, 23:08:48
he's classically trained probally
By: yngvaigilbsteen. on 08 Jun 08, 04:00:20
Yeah, that is super cool that he can play classical like that. It sounds fantastic. What a great player. He can flatpick with the best shredders and fingerpick with the best classical players. I'm glad to see metal/shredder guys shutting these classical and jazz snobs up by stepping up to the plate and showing off what I always knew they could do and what classical/jazz players (evidently) were too blind to see. Or, should I say, too deaf to hear.
By: rhoadsofoz. on 05 Jun 08, 05:25:21
Briliant!! Not only is this guy a wicked metal player, he's also a wicked classical musican who just played an ARCT conservatory piece flawlessly!
