Sorry, but I have to comment. Hopefully they didn't loose their homes BUT now you know what it felt like all those years ago when we were thrown out. I am so-called coloured and we used to live in North End, Oudtshoorn. My late father used to own a few other properties there plus a shop and off course the house we had lived in. The village is called Peguche and is just a few Km from Otavalo and the name of the restaurant is "Aya huma". You can also stay in a room there if you like, but it's always busy so you have to make a reservation. The name of the dutch lady is Mieke. I recogniced the place immediatly aldo it is 10 years ago this summer that I was there. They have live music every weekend for all I know.

There is this band in Ecuador which recorded old songs like that one ... with new arrangements.. it sounds cool too. Maybe you can look them up "kruz n karnak" or something weird like that. It was a group that played for us on Christmasevening in 2004 in a restaurant a little bit upon a hill at the railway and this restaurant was managed by a Dutch lady. This is all the information I have. Rogerpaul has given his comment on the content of the music 3 month's ago.

My remark about the word "spelt" was a little joke actually. I know you can spell the word as "spelt"or "spelled" and it's both right. But in DUTCH the word spelt is referring to an ancient kind of grain, already used 3000 to 5000 years ago and much healthier than wheat or whatever you guys call the stuff people usually bake bread from. THAT spelt, is being re-introduced overhere and people love the tasty bread and pastry you can bake with it.

If you'd cared to research this you'd have noticed I was referring to the introductory text which IS in English - so in that context the spelling IS incorrect, regardless of what language it was written in, be it Swahili or whatever. I have to defend people who use only English and might mistakenly believe that 'Ierland' is the correct spelling. That was your experience, and mine was fine. the only problem was we were booked by the Institute of Housing in Rotterdam in a hotel which turned out to be a pick point. A guy from another country in Africa camped in front of my classmate from Brazil. Real scary. And also women are not allowed in the cafes, and must be escorted by a guy when going out at night.

I was there in1984 on a field trip from a scholarship from the Dutch government.The Dept Head for Housing oriented us on their housing programs, esp. slum upgrading, he talked in French, but later we found out he can talk fluentlyin english. There was not a clear sky at the moment of our visit so we couldn't see the sea. My visit was only for two days. For me it is very difficult to distinguish one hill from the other, but it is remarkable that you can see the hills from Wales on clear days.

Spent a lot of time in Wicklow in my halcyon days. We can sometimes see the Wicklow Mountains from where I live in Wales. To prove it - I have a video on You Tube, simply called - "Ireland - A View From Wales". It's a rare but amazing view. You may be able to identify some of the hills you've climbed?

Great video! I was in this wonderfull town in the late 70's. Yes that's salt-water taffy, famous all along the Gringo Trail. Terrible to think what it may be like after this erruption.
