Savannahs usually have a good temperament and of all those I've handled have I've never come across one that attempted to bite me; even if they weren't very tame. If you get them young and handle them often there would be little chance of it biting you, and would make for a great tame pet. On the other hand if you rarely handle them, they can stay pretty wild and not like to be held. Also wash your hands after you've held mice or other food before you handle them or they could think you're food.

are they easy to handle or will they bite your hand?

Yea 5 foot Savs are almost mythical in rareness, I have a picture of one and another picture of a definate 4 and a half footer. My sav is still under 4 feet which is where I really want him to be at. Still I bet you have cared for him well beacuse Sav's typically get around 3 feet as SHvar says; you'll be lucky to see anything larger than that.

Thanks. In this video he was about 30 inches and has grown some more since then. Unfortunately the original owners didn't seem to take very good care of him, hence their willingness to give him and a 125 gallon to me for $50 U.S., so I am thinking they may have stunted his growth... I know in the wild they average about 3-5 ft fully grown but a well taken care of, captive raised Sav could get bigger than those in the wild. I wouldn't say too much bigger though. Good luck with him.

Lovely stocky Sav, how big is he? Mine is around 40'+ and about 2 years old, I'm wondering if he will get any larger. Wb ;)

Thanks. The entire cage is 6 ft X 6 ft X 30 in. The housing portion is 6ft X 46in X 30in. I know they like to dig and burrow but unfortunately i didn't have enough room to put in a deep sandbox for him. I used to have him in substrate but it became a hassle after a while. I just have it carpeted now; easy to clean and change if it gets too dirty and he seems pretty happy with it. Good luck on the cage and the Sav.
