You are very very ignorant, without Aikido I'm pretty sure none of us would know Steven Seagal. I personally want to mix this with Wing Chun as I think it can become an entirely new Martial Art. Steven Seagal must be a great teacher, he seems to be very focused on "fighting". I took Aikido classes for some time, but I didn't like the approach they had there. It was just a lot of dancing around, bowing and smiling all the time. But I am convinced that with the right approach and the right teacher, Aikido can be a very effective martial art.

I really like the statement at 0:26 "that when you stand on the mat with Take Sensei (and this goes for all the instructors that I have trained with)you know there is truth in Aikido" I have been within the sphere of a Shihan and I agree with the previous posts. If you think Aikido is a dance then you missed it! I have trained in Aikido for 2.5 years and still feel I am a beginner.Two years in Aikido is nothing! The translation of the word aikido means "way of harmony", people mystify this a lot,but it simply breaks down to "if uke is going one way,nage has to go that way", otherwise where is the harmony?Using that principle explains how people of smaller mass(ie women) can throw bigger uke.How many times on just this section of the film do we see Seagal using his considerable mass clothes lining uke's, regardless of the way the uke moving? What is on show here will work in life,but it isn't aikido.

We used the Bokken & Jo but again the strikes were very traditional & not very realistic. Your right about the `feel` aspect. I get attacked at work quite alot by certain rugby players who like many `NZ rugby players` like to think that toughness is all brawn. These are work friends of course but they do try it on when i`m not looking. Always a laugh when they end up making fools of themselves, The most positive thing i got from Aikido was keeping `centred`(balanced)Very important!

Funny you brought up an over hand chop. I was just practicing tonight knife slashes tonight. We started slow and technical and then went to real time speed. My uke was our service's Psychologist. "Overhand chops" are just approximation for hooks, jabs, bat, axe, sword strikes and so on. It sounds as though the instructor you did not think your class was prepared. We train with Tanto, Bokken, Jo and for some, implementation of handgun disarming. Aikido is more on "feel" and experience.

I even asked my Aikido Sensei if we could implement `soft bat training`( stiking with a softball bat made of foam) & he said no. But martial arts such as traditional Karate, Gong-Fu, Krav Maga and Aikido were implemented with life or death situations. That's why Police Forces and Military Services globally utilize these martial arts instead of sport styles. We don't want to get into a fist fight and end-up wrestling around. Most confrontations in the streets are emotionally motivated and most rely on what they are comfortable with. An overhead chop is no different than a right hook, both seen a mile away.

No, I see your point and it is true. The Strikes the Uke performs are very perdictabe and linear. Traditional Aikido was designed for self-defence and not sport. Most fights in the street don't have the flashy moves that most martial arts such as full contact Karate or MMA have. In these sports, we know that the ref will come in and break it up and you'll get to go home to sleep in your bed the next day. It's more of being able to allow your body and brain to understand the actually application.

Hang, thanks for your reply,Its not like i havent tryed aikido,i participated for 2 years with other martial art blackbelt experience to my benefit. The problem i found was the Uke attacks were easy to read, the training was so predictable! so when i faced a blackbelt in aikido & did something they did not expect(a `no no`)they immediately became defensive. My point is the training lacked reality which is why these guys in this video footage failed. The sensei that was teaching us was a 6th dan.

dobberdoss, Aikido is definately real. If the situation presents itself, I've incorporated Aikido in apprehending and detaining violent suspects while on duty. Especially the ones that display an "I'm better than you attitude." Not to often do they have a second chance to get up. It is very practical when applying handcuffs. You never know whom you are bumping into.

Okay, the problem is with deleting viruses is that you are also deleting the file that is infected by that virus. So now, there is a hole in your software. Try running the XP installation disk and click on repair. I had a similair problem only I could not send or recieve emails through microsoft outlook.

I have Windows XP, my computer WOULDNT changed my background to a royal blue with a warning that my computer had been infected with a virus.I ran Spy Sweeper and I had 93 Cookies/Trojans and 311 Traces. I told it to delete all of the Cookies/Trojans like I have every time before. Now, it won't let me change my background to a picture.
